Alba Rose

(Rosa Alba)

Also known as Rosa x Alba or the White Rose of York, this is a hybrid rose that grows as a medium-sized shrub. The flowers have a lovely sweet scent, and are very popular around the world.

This drawing was created primarily using white charcoal, and toned with vine charcoal and compressed black charcoal. The paper is a deep brown color, which made for an exciting new challenge while drawing. When I use charcoal, I create the soft and smooth texture by using various sizes of paper blending stumps or tortillons throughout each layer. The octagonally cropped drawing is around 15 by 15 inches large.
